O'Reilly All Stars: Clanton Cruises
to "Dual" Win at Lernerville
LERNERVILLE, Pa. - Sept. 4. Shane Clanton
had always been fast at Lernerville Speedway, but he never got the breaks needed to pick up a win at the famed
half-mile until 2010. The Georgia ace made everything click back
in June when he took home $30,000 from the fourth annual ‘Firecracker 100’ and continued his 2010 success at ‘The
Action Track’ with a $5,000 win in the O’Reilly All Star Late Model Series sanctioned ‘Dual in the Dirt’,
surprisingly, using the same right front tire that glued him to the speedway in June.
After missing the previous night's event
at West Virginia, Shane Clanton raced to Friday's O'Reilly All Stars victory at
Steve Francis looks under #25 Josh
Richards after advancing to fourth. He grabbed third from an out of shape Frank late in the race.
"After 150 laps and $35,000, I think that tire has paid for
itself," joked race winner Clanton.
Chub Frank to the early lead, Clanton set a blistering pace on the ultra-fast surface that took almost a half-inch of rain a mere two hours before racing
began, had action all over as Frank and Josh Richards ran behind the leader, and 11th starting All Star Rookie of
the Year contender John Garvin Jr. slid into the sixth place on the second lap. Meanwhile,18th starting Steve Francis
powered his way into the top ten by the eighth circuit while Gregg Satterlee fought
with Clint Smith for the fifth spot.

Stars defending champ Robbie Blair (#11) to eventually wind up sixth in the rundown.(Cory Stivason)
The laps started clicking away as Clanton diced his way through
lapped traffic. Richards used momentum out of turn two to gain on second
running Frank on each and every lap, attempting slide job after slide job in turn four with no success as Chub used
his own outside momentum.
Francis continued to make his way to the
front after climbing into the top five with a pass of Clint Smith on lap 22 and
another under Blair for fourth on lap 23. Richards was finally able to make one of his patented Lernerville slide jobs stick on lap
27 to move into the second spot, while Francis was steadily gaining on the duo. Francis’s pass on Frank on lap 28 was made fairly easy as Frank made contact with the
lapped car of Herman Bertolini, but was able to regroup before fourth running Clint Smith was able to get
Shane Clanton after his OAS win at
Lernerville, Pa. (Cory Stivason)
Clanton masterfully worked lapped traffic to hold onto the lead during the caution-free race and bring
home his second career All Star Late Model Series feature event.
Richards was second with Francis coming from his 18th starting position to finish third.
