Putnam Routs "Topless Brawl" Field at Thunderhill

Thanks to Connie Putnam

SUMMERTOWN, Tenn. - Sept. 24. Thunderhill Raceway played host to unsanctioned $4,000-to-win "Topless Brawl" Late Model event Saturday, and with 27 teams registered in for the 40-lap main event, Josh Putnam, of Florence, Alabama, led flag to flag.

Rain delayed the proceedings after hot laps, and just as the cars were coming to the infield for qualifying. After the track was re-sealed and another round of hot laps, Putnam set fast time overall with a 11.726-second lap to earn

Tony Morris and Corey Posey

Corey Posey gets under Murphreesboro, Tenn.'s Tony Morris, but the Alabama driver would fail to make it stick and had to settle for fourth behind Morris at the finish. (Connie Putnam)

the front row start. Also locked in from qualifying were north Middle Tennessee ace Chuck Proctor, Tony Morris, Seth McCormack, David Brannon and Mark Fields. Daniel Miller and Ben Kittrell captured heat wins to set the field.

Putnam chose to start the feature on the outside front row, and despite a multi-groove track allowed passing thoughout the middle part of the field, there were few changes inside the top five and few challenges to Putnam as he was able to maintain a solid lead from green to checkered.

Daniel Miller and David Gentry

After starting back in 11th and reaching sixth place, #56 David Gentry gets a challenge from seventh running Daniel Miller. (Connie Putnam)

Ben Kitrell and Brad Skinner at Thunderhill Raceway

Just three cautions slowed the pace down before Putnam finally crossed the finish ahead of Proctor. Morris finished third after holding off pressure from fourth place Corey Posey. Fields claimed fifth, while David Gentry came from 11th to sixth after getting some heat from seventh finishing Daniel Miller. Brad Skinner advanced from 13th to eighth.
