Show-Me Racing Series: Campbell Wires "Boogerman" Field

Trenton Berry

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. - Oct. 29. Racing on a flawless track, Larry Campbell jumped to the lead at the drop of the green flag and led every lap to score the first annual "Boogerman" win Saturday at the Springfield Raceway. This was Campbell’s second Race Brothers Show Me Racin Series win of the year.

“We just went back to the heat race setup (for the feature) maybe just a little bit tighter", said Campbell after the race.

A long run concluded the race with lap traffic nearly playing into the outcome. Campbell caught Larry Jones near the end of the feature.

“I was just trying to stay put, said Campbell. “I slowed way down the last ten laps of that race. I just tried to stay on his bumper, maybe a little inside of him. I just tried to cover the race track and cover my bases.”

Brandon Hunter and Rylan Long closed the gap between themselves and Campbell, making for a great end to a really good race. Hunter secured the BP Grocery Rookie of the Year honors and finished a season best second. Rylan Long carried the ULMA torch finishing third. Leslie Essary finished fourth, and Rex Merritt rounded out the top five.

Justin Wells was crowned the 2011 Race Brothers Show Me Racin Series champion. This is his fourth overall title. Wells won three events this season, and had an average finish of 3.1.

“It kind of seems like here lately we can’t close the deal, stated Wells. “I like championships, but I like to win more. I’ll sit back in a week or two and think it was a pretty good year.” Wells will receive $6,000 at the series banquet for securing the title. Over 20 drivers qualified for the post season point fund.
