SRRS: Ogle Reels In Boyd's Win

RINGGOLD, Ga. - Oct. 14. In the first of a pair of season ending Southern Regional Racing Series (SRRS) events scheduled for the weekend, Billy Ogle, Jr. reeled in leader Anthony Burroughs early and held off a fierce challenge from Vic Hill to win Friday's series event at Boyd's Speedway.

Thirty drivers were split into three groups for qualifying, and Burroughs put in the fastest lap at 14.1790 secs. to claim the pole position. Ogle was also locked in through time trials, along with Mike Weeks, Brandon Kinzer, Vic Hill, and Skip Arp.

With B-Mains going to John Ownbey, Tim Busha, and Tommy Kerr, the field was set and Burroughs took the early lead, but by the time the first caution flew on lap six for a slowing Tony Knowles, Ogle has gotten by for the lead.

Ogle refired with Burroughs right behind and Weeks, Kinzer, and Hill in the top five. -On the double file restart, 12th starting Putnam passed Kerr for eighth place, but Kerr, attempting to retake the spot, got into Putnam, causing the SRRS points leader to spin.  Putnam went to the rear of the 24 car field for the restart.

With Ogle still out front, the caution returned on lap 18 for the #79 of Dewayne Powell. By then, Hill had transplanted Burroughs for second.

After another caution on lap 25, second running Hill began to wage a major attack on Ogle for the lead in the last few laps of the race. Ogle, using the outside and Hill the inside, battled side by side in the turns, but Ogle would keep the momentum going to pull back ahead on the straightaways. Ogle shot the gap between two slower cars and left the lapped car of Gary McPherson spinning on the front straight on the white flag lap, but no caution would come out and the race continued until Ogle took the checkered on the next circuit. Hill finished second, followed by Burroughs, Ownbey, Riley Hickman, Kinzer, Busha, and Putnam, who rebounded to an eighth place finish by race's end.
