Matt Lux - May 8

Nursing an ill-handling race car, Matt Lux managed to retake his lost lead from Greg Satterlee and race to the feature win at Lernerville Speedway on Friday. The Franklin, Pa. driver was hot off his Thursday night win ULMS victory at McKean County Raceway.  Cory Stivason

With Trimmed Field, Lux Finishes Off ULMS Duffy Memorial at McKean County

E. SMETHPORT, Pa. - May 6. Matt Lux of Franklin, Pa. returned to McKean County Raceway for the conclusion of the 30-lap "Jim Duffy Memorial" that paid him $2000 and a guaranteed starting spot for the season ending "Priority Care RaceFAN 50" for the Northern Tier ULMS Late Models.

Fifteen of the original 17 drivers returned for the remaining 27 laps, with defending three-time ULMS champion Bob Close and Jeff Hoffman leading the field to John Powell’s green flag. Close got sideways in turn two, resulting in cars checking up and Greg Oakes sweeping by for second.

Hoffman still led as the yellow lights came out for Paul Grigsby who collected the front stretch wall, ending his night real early. During the yellow, Close went pit side with a left rear flat tire, and Oakes took the lead over Hoffman. With five laps on the books, Lux was up to second from his sixth place starting position. Boom Briggs sat in third with Jason Dupont who restarted ninth, up to fourth and charging to the front, as Hoffman slid back to fifth.

Dupont took third on lap six from Briggs with an inside turn two move, but Oakes was pulling away from Lux and was looking at possibly his first ULMS win. Briggs and Gregg Satterlee moved around Dupont on lap ten as the Northern Tier Inc #No7 would go to the infield with a broken axle.

Oakes remained in command until lap 14, when he pulled up lame with a broken rocker arm, handing the lead over to Lux. With the halfway flags displayed, Lux led Briggs and Satterlee, followed by Dennis Lunger and Close, who was back up to fifth. Close moved into fourth on lap 17, and Hoffman retired a lap later with a broken spindle.

Lux, Satterlee, and Briggs caught the slower car of Wally Fox and a three car battle for the lead seemed to be in the making, but Lux would got around Fox and left Satterlee and Briggs behind. Lap 24 saw Briggs go pitside unexpectedly with an overheated motor, handing third place to Close. During the final few laps, Satterlee worked high and low on Lux, but he would fall a length short.
