Wendell Wallace (88) and Monett's own Ken Essary battle for the fifth position at Monett Speedway. (Ron Mitchell) Mo. and six-time and defending MARS champion Terry Phillips of Springfield, Mo. enroute to the $3,000 payday. Looney, himself a former Monett Speedway track champion, stated afterwards, “We have been close several times at Monett with the MARS series and it feels good to get the win”.
Jack Sullivan and #42 Brandon McCormick picked up seventh and ninth, respectively, at Monett. (Ron Mitchell) In addition to leading all 35 laps of the feature, Looney also took control of the series points, with a slim four-point margin over Phillips. Wells finished second with R.C. Whitwell of Tucson, Ariz. third. Phillips wound up fourth and Wendell Wallace of Batesville, Ark. rounded out the top five.
