MARS: Looney Picks Up Roper Memorial, Series Points Lead

MONETT, Mo. - May 29. Brad Looney of Republic, Mo. picked up his first victory of the year with the MARS DIRTcar Series at Monett Speedway’s 11th annual "Tony Roper Memorial" Sunday at Monett Speedway. Looney withstood challenges from 2010 Monett Speedway Track Champion Justin Wells of Aurora,

Mo. and six-time and defending MARS champion Terry Phillips of Springfield, Mo. enroute to the $3,000 payday.

Looney, himself a former Monett Speedway track champion, stated afterwards, “We have been close several times at Monett with the MARS series and it feels good to get the win”.

In addition to leading all 35 laps of the feature, Looney also took control of the series points, with a slim four-point margin over Phillips.

Wells finished second with R.C. Whitwell of Tucson, Ariz. third. Phillips wound up fourth and Wendell Wallace of Batesville, Ark. rounded out the top five.
