Weaver's Loss is Ogle's Gain at Boyd's Volunteer Racing Series Stop

Series report

RINGGOLD, Ga. - May 28. In dominating fashion, Billy Ogle, Jr. of Knoxville, Tenn. raced to a dominant win in Friday's "Georgia Memorial" Volunteer Racing Series sanctioned event at Boyd's Speedway.

Ogle's qualifying record at Boyd's was secure at the end of Friday's time trials, as Mike Weeks posted the fastest time of 13.536. Weeks would then have to settle for second in the first of three heat races that saw Ogle and previous Boyd's VRS winner Ronnie Johnson on the front row for the start of the main event after the redraw.

Ogle powered away to the lead while Randy Weaver and Weeks got the jump on Johnson to grab second and third. After a race-ending collision between Jamie Perry and Ross White on lap three, and Derrick York and Kayne Hickman's wreck on lap nine, Johnson slipped back by Weeks to reclaim third, and Tommy Kerr moved to fourth.

Using back-marker traffic to his advantage, Weaver stepped thru a slightly opened door and took the lead from Ogle on lap 17. A few laps later, Chad Ogle

spun solo to avoid a stalling racecar. With the restart, second running Billy Ogle had all kinds of pressure from Johnson for second, but up front, it appeared to be Weaver's race lose - and that's exactly what happened as the leader suddenly stalled with a broken front end of lap 29.

As Ogle inherited the lead, Johnson took his final shot with a banzai move off of turn four, but Johnson's lap 35 bid came up short as Ogle sailed to the win by a half-straightaway.
