Total Seal Late Models: Madrid Sweeps Canyon Twins

Kevin Montgomery

PEORIA, Ariz. - May 28-29. Anthony Madrid double dipped over the weekend picking up two consecutive Total Seal Late Model Series victories as he wrapped up an exciting weekend of racing action by winning Sunday night's 25-lap main event atop Canyon Speedway's 3/8 mile clay oval.

In Saturday's opener,  Madrid mastered the mayhem of night one of the two day Memorial Weekend.  Madrid, who started seventh, was able to work his way to the front and pass race leader Terry Belcher Jr. winning his first 25-lap Total Seal Dirt Late Model main event of 2011.

Madrid was followed to the line by Jerry Fincher, Lonnie Parker Jr. with Paul Banghart and John Cornell rounding out the top five.

As the Total Seal Late Models returned on Sunday, Madrid was able to win from the pole position but it was Terry Belcher Jr. that would lead the first portion of the event as Madrid battled Belcher and Ricky Thornton Jr. for the lead.  Belcher would relinquish the lead to Madrid at the half way point and he was able to sustain constant pressure from Thornton to capture his second win of the year.

Thornton would settle for runner up with Belcher, John Cornell and Joey Moriarty rounding the top five.
