NALMS: Sheppard Sails to First Series Win

Mike Ruefer

LINCOLN, Ill. - May 27. Dodging the rain that has plagued most of the racing season so far this year, The NALMS had a fast and furious race at Lincoln Speedway on Friday night as second generation driver Brandon Sheppard led all the way to the $2,000 win.

The front row for the feature was the father Steve Sheppard and son Brandon, who quickly set the ground pounding pace. Brandon darted out front and from that point, it was the chase toward the checkered flag.

Steve Sheppard started his #5s on the front row alongside son Brandon, but would have to settle for third after giving up a spot to #24 Ryan Unzicker. (Mike Ruefer)

Bobby Pierce - Jake Meier - Lincoln Speedway NALMS

Cornbelt Clash regular Jake Meier made his first appearance at Lincoln Speedway and posted a satisfying seventh, but the drive of the night may have been young Bobby Pierce's from the rear of the field to fourth place in his Pierce Race Cars #32. (Mike Ruefer)

Ryan Unzicker, having another strong run, had his work cut out for the night and passed Steve Sheppard to finish second. Steve Sheppard held on for third in the "Shepps Speedway’ sponsored hot rod. The drive of the night belonged to Bobby Pierce, who transferred to the A Main from the B Main, then stormed the field and worked the black gummy track to perfection for fourth.

Donnie Walden - Billy Drake - NALMS at Lincoln Speedway

Donnie Walden was pretty in pink for fifth. IMCA regular Mark Burgtorf from Quincy, Illinois had a strong night with his open motor program for sixth, and Iowa’s Corn Belt Clash regular Jake Meier dug out a seventh place finish for his first time in an Illini UMP series event.

The wild ride of the night went to Dillan White in heat race three. White rolled his race car while racing hard with Steve Smith. His black #54 left the track broken and part dangling, but he walked away unhurt.
