Van Wormer Wins Season's Second ALMS
LAKE ODESSA, Mich. - May 15. Jeep Van Wormer, of Pinconning, Mich., took advantage of an entanglement between
front row starters Jerry Bowersock and Carl Ries on the initial start, and used his new front row seat to drie away
to his second win of the season on the Sunoco American Late Model Series (ALMS).
While Van Wormer controlled the entire event, his typical banzai racing style was somewhat curtailed by numerous
cautions that slowed the event and ultimately had race officials shortening to the total laps from its originally
scheduled 40 circuits to 30. A large wreck early in the race brought the field to a stop under the red flag at one
When the dust cleared, Van Wormer had his third win in special event action this season, with Dusty Moore
putting in an impressive rally from the rear of the field to second in the shortened race. Local driver Bill Bray
posted third after starting 11th, while perennial ALMS standout Brian Ruhlman started just behind Moore on row
ten and chased him to the front to finish fourth. Eric Spangler appeared to possibly have something for Van Wormer,
but faded back to fifth late in the race.
