Local Driver Varnadore Claims First NASRA Win at East Bay

TAMPA, Fla. — March 4. After frigid temperatures and wet weather cancelled Wednesday’s action, Travis Varnadore of Dover, Fla. prevailed in his first-career National All-Star Racing Association victory at the East Bay Raceway Park on Thursday.

Varnadore crossed the line ahead of Bryan Bernhardt of Clearwater, Fla. for the victory. Rounding out the top-five were Aaron Ridley, Steve Shaver and Phillip Cobb.

Heat winners Ridley and Varnadore brought the field down to the green flag for the start of the 25-lapper. Two cautions slowed the event, first on the second lap as Bill Bray spun around and collected Doug Watson and Russ Adams.

At this point, Varnadore led Steve Shaver for the restart before the second yellow flag waved for Bill Bray again as he spun with just four laps remaining. Varnadore led new second place runner Bryan Bernhardt to the stripe for the four lap shootout, holding on for the flag-to-flag victory.

In preliminary action, Ridley set Fast Time with a second lap. There were 23 entrants on hand. Heat Race Winners were Ridley, Varnadore and Shaver.
