Wall Gets Season's First Checkers in PRO Series Opener at Columbus

COLUMBUS, Miss. - March 13. Returning to one of his "home" tracks in the Southeast after mixing it up with the Lucas Oil Series regulars, Chris Wall, of Holden, La., rocketed his way to the $2,000 victory in the wild debut of the Promoters Racing Organization (P.R.O.) Late Model Dirt Car Series Saturday at Columbus Speedway.

The event saw several different leaders among the often three and four-wide pack throughout the main event before Wall could bag his first win of the young season.

With 38 drivers entered, Bub McCool, of Vicksburg, Mississippi and also  back from his debut on the Lucas tour, started the night with fast time honors

around the clay oval to earn the Southern Belle Pole Position for the 40 lap feature.  McCool was joined on the front row for the main event by Ronnie Lee Hollingsworth, winner of last weekend's SRRS event in Tennessee. As the feature went green, Bub McCool blasted to the lead with Hollingsworth and Billy Moyer Jr. battling three-wide for the lead.

After lap three, Hollingsworth and McCool were swapping the lead several times, with was applying heavy pressure to McCool for the lead, and the duo would swap McCool working the extreme high side of the track and Hollingsworth in the middle.  Entering turn one on lap seven, McCool made a daring move in lapped traffic, which sent him skating toward the wall.  He would recover, but not before Hollingsworth bolted to the lead.

Moyer - Hollingsworth

By lap 10, the leaders were engaged in heavy lapped traffic as 11th starting Chris Wall cracked the top three, and began to reel in the front-runners. Five laps later, Wall would use the low-line to race past McCool for the second position.

The first caution of the event flew on lap 20 when Dean Carpenter climbed the turn two wall. Carpenter was able to continue as he joined the back of the field.

On the ensuing double file restart, McCool used the high side to rocket past Wall and Hollingsworth to retake the lead, and our laps later, Wall raced past Hollingsworth, who had begun to fade with mechanical woes on the front of his mount.  With Wall on the hub and McCool on the extreme high side, the lead duo battled for the next four laps before Wall took the top spot on lap 27.  One lap later, McCool retook possession of the lead, but his reign at the front would come to an end on lap 29, when contact with the backstretch wall bent the rearend on his #57, bringing his night to an end.

As the field prepared to restart for the final time Wall led Hollingsworth, Anthony Burroughs, David Breazeale, and 16th starting Chad Thrash. On the restart Burroughs moved past Hollingsworth for second and Thrash moved to fourth. One lap later, Thrash raced past Hollingsworth for second as Wall built a straightaway lead on the field.

The remainder of the event went caution free with Wall claiming the win over Thrash, Burroughs, Breazeale, and Dane Dacus.

In victory lane, Wall commented “The crew did their job all night, but the driver dropped the ball in time trials, so I had to really get up on the wheel in the feature. The car was just awesome!”.

Cuba, Alabama's Justin Mcree claimed the NeSmith Chevrolet Crate Late Model win over Ronnie Johnson, Eric Cooley, Chris Ragan, and Billy Moyer, Jr.
