Show-Me Racing Series: Essary Gets First Win of Show-Me Season at Mid-America

Trenton Berry

S. COFFEYVILLE, Okla. - June 4. Leslie Essary assumed the lead on lap 13 at Mid- America Speedwayand never looked back as he rolled to his first Race Brothers Show Me Racin Series win since October, 2009.

“The first part of the race went pretty good,” said Essary. “With about ten or 12 laps to go, a shock pin broke on the left front and broke the brake line, so for the last laps, it was kind of a handful to get around there.”

Essary is teamed with fellow competitior Jim Greenway this season in a GRT Race Car with Mike’s Motor & Machine supplying the power. Sponsorship on the #5 comes from Baillie Diesel and Mike’s Motor & Machine. This win is the 26th for Essary, who ranks second on the all-time Race Brothers Show Me Racin Series list.

Justin Wells - Randy Zimmerman - Thunderbird Speedway

Justin Wells finished in the runner up spot. He was nearly the night’s hard charger as he raced from his tenth starting position. Wells, as well as Ken Essary benefited from the top side of the speedway coming in late in the race, as they were able to make up ground in the latter stages. Essary passed the most cars in the feature, as he came from the outside of row six to finish third. Larry Campbell was solid all evening, running as high as second before finishing fourth. Rex Merritt started on the pole and led the first 12 laps before coming home fifth.

The 30-lap Race Brothers A Main was only slowed by one caution when Kyle Ledford spun on lap seven. Early in the night three heat races were contested with Leslie Essary, Larry Campbell and Rick Lebow winning. Thus far in 2011, three Show Me races have netted three different winners.
