MDLMS/CLMA: Smith Steals the Show at Beaver

by Dusty Wiegert

BEAVER, Okla. - June 3. With the first night of racing in the books for the MidwestDirt Late Model Series, a familiar driver stole the show and recorded the win in the first ever appearance by the series at the Beaver County Raceway in Beaver, Okla.

Not only did Wichitan Delbert Smith take the 25 lap A Feature win on Friday night, but he also won the G&G Cash Dash and his qualifying heat race as well en route to the clean sweep.

The Iceman immediately jumped to the lead at the start from the pole position and opened up a large lead early. The only caution of the race was on lap 17 when Will Brack spun in turn three and then developed shifter issues, ending his night.

Scott Lewis was on the move and worked his way from an eighth place starting spot to briefly challenge Smith for the win. Lewis was also the GRT Race Cars Hard Charger, and held on to second with Ryan Heger third, and Brad Wagoner rounding out the top fourth. Smith and Heger won the heat races.

The race was co-sanctioned by the Championship Late Model Association DIRTcar Series.
