Hatton Gets First Bluegrass Speedway Win at NASRA June Jam
Michael Despain

BARDSTOWN, Ky. - June 19. The National All Star Racing Association (NASRA) made its first official appearance of 2010 at Bluegrass Speedway on Saturday evening and Aaron Hatton drove away $3,000 richer after picking up the victory in the ninth annual "June Jam" event. It was Hatton’s first-ever Bluegrass Speedway feature win.

The drop of the green flag would not see a full lap completed as five cars tangled in turn three to draw the only caution of the race, as Arnie Fields, Michael Chilton, Jeff Watson, Bobby Wolter, Jr., and Christian Rayburn all got involved. Only Fields was unable to continue.

Once action got underway, Steve Barnett drove the race lead after battling Hatton on the initial lap, followed by Justin Rattliff, and Dustin Neat. Mike Jewell took fifth from Marty O'Neal on lap two. Neat scored the third position from Rattliff on lap five, and with Barnett continuing to hold a comfortable lead, Neat set his sights on Hatton and after a brief battle, took second from Hatton on lap 13.

As the halfway signal flew on the 30 lap event, Neat began to close the gap on Barnett for the top spot, while Rattliff and Jewell pressured Hatton for third until both shuffled him back to fifth. Jewell then hounded Rattliff for third and took the position on lap 20. Jewell then made a bold move to the outside on lap 21 in turn one and grabbed the second spot from Neat and continued to rim-ride past Barnett to take the lead on lap 22.

At the same time, Hatton went from fourth to second and maneuvered his mount to the top side as well, as Barnett, Neat, and Rattliff danced three-wide for the third spot. Hatton mounted a charge on Jewell fired a turns one and two slidejob to grab the lead on lap 24. Barnett won the battle for third momentarily, only to have Rattliff bavk around him on lap 27. With Hatton pulling away at this point, Rattliff scooted under Jewell on lap 28, but was unable to mount a charge on Hatton.

With the duel checkered flags waving, Hatton picked up a popular win behind the wheel of the Russell Hatton owned Checkered Flag Auto Sales/ Russell Hatton Mobile Home Rentals sponsored #33 Rocket.
