NEW RICHMOND, Wis. - June 18. Following a formula that was worked well for him so far, Billy Moyer ended a long lead for former protege' Shannon Babb and raced to his third straight UMP Dirtcar Summernationals win at Cedar Lake Speedway Friday. The Dirt Late Model Hall of Fame driver from Batesville, Ark., climbed from his eighth-place starting spot and powered by Babb, of

Moweaqua, Ill., on lap 34 to claim his third straight DIRTcar Summer Nationals win of 2010 during the opening night of the 12th annual "Masters".

Babb, no stranger to domination of the early summer series of events himself, would have to settle for second over local standouts Pat Doar (the night's fast qualifier) and pole winner Eric Pember. Ohio traveller Matt Miller rounded out the top five, while Brian Birkhofer advanced from 17th to sixth after enteringthe starting field through his B-Main win.

The red light would replace the green as the race started with a pileup thatinflicted race-ending damage on the cars of Adams Hensel, Bub McCool,

Jeep Van Wormer, and Zach Johnson after sixth starting Hensel got loose and collected the others who were running the top side at the back end of the field.

Bub McCool (#57) was caught up and taken out on the first lap after a chain reaction wrecked that was kicked off by sixth starting Adam Hensel. Billy Moyer, Jr. (#21) entered the event as a provisional starter to watch Dad Billy Moyer's winning performance from well back in the pack. (Rick Blewett)

Dennis Erb, Jr. was also involved, but would continue well out of contention for the win.

After the cleanup, polesitter Pember brought the field back up to speed, but Babb got the jump from the outside with Pember in pursuit while Moyer, who had failed to unseat Babb in the earlier heat race, began to work the frontrunners from row four. Finally overtaking Doar and Pember, Moyer caughtBabb in the closing laps and claimed the win.

In an unprecedented schedule adjustment several weeks ago, CLS is slated to host a second Summernationals event tomorrow night.
