USDCS: Cook Wins Inaugural Series Event at Richmond

series report

RICHMOND, Ky. - June 11.The United Super DirtCar Series held its inaugural event on Saturday evening at Richmond Raceway, and Ray Cook of Brasstown, N.C. led the final eight laps of an exciting event to grab the $3,000 payday at the Joey and Tiffany Tackett promoted facility.

Mike Jewell led early and hustled out to about a five car length lead, but was quickly joined in a battle for the lead by Dustin Linville, Aaron Hatton, Cook, and Victor Lee. By lap 10, the front five raced in a bunch, with Linville finally going to the outside of Jewell to take the race lead exiting turn two. After a caution slowed the action, business really picked up at the front with Linville, Cook, and Lee battling back and forth and at times three-wide for the lead, with Hatton also in the mix as well.

The turning point of the race came on lap 32 when Cook and Linville exited turn two side-by-side racing hard for the top spot. The duo made contact and Linville hit the outside retaining barrier and spun down the backchute, ending his night with a damaged race car.

The final eight circuits saw Cook keep Lee at bay to grab the win aboard the Danny Dishman owned A Plus Moving and Storage/Hicks and Ingle Company/VP Racing Fuels #53. Lee settled for second over Hatton, Jewell, and Tyrel Todd.
