PORT ROYAL, Pa. - June 9. After a dismal early season compared to recent years past, one that has seen numerous DNFs and only one other top five in nine events to date, Jeremy Miller showed strong signs of a comeback when he claimed Thursday's $5,000 Appalachian Mountain Speedweek win at Port Royal Speedway.
In his first career appearance at PRS, Jamie Lathroum was fast qualifier at 20.177 seconds before building a huge margin as the early leader of the feature event. That would change, however, as Dover, Pa. driver Coleby Frye, starting 12th, drove mostly the high side of the dry, rough racing surface to advance, passing Lathroum for the lead by lap 11. At that point, Miller also took second from Lathroum.

A few laps later, Lathroum passed Miller back, taking over second again, while Frye planted his right rear on the narrow cushion and pulled away. Frye's day in the sun wasn't to be, however, as motor troubles cost him the lead to Lathroum, who assumed the point for the second time when Frye's mechanical troubles surfaced. Frye's car lost power on the backstretch and he coasted to a stop low in turn three to bring one of nine yellow flags out.
On the lap-28 restart, Lathroum was passed by Miller shortly after the green flag waved . Miller went on to lead the final 12 circuits and record a six-length victory. Jeff Rine slipped underneath Miller between turns one and two with less than 10 laps to go, but settled for second ahead of Rick Eckert, Lathroum, and ninth starter Jason Covert.
