DirtCar Summer Nationals: Birkhofer Dominant at 34 Raceway

BURLINGTON, Iowa - July 4. Brian Birkhofer left no doubt who was the strongest in the field on Monday night during the DirtCar Summer Nationals event at 34 Raceway. The Muscatine native led every lap from the pole, building large leads at times to claim his first Summer Nationals triumph of 2011, worth $5,000.

Jack Sullivan scored his second straight top three finish, coming home second after 40 laps.  Former 'Hell Tour' Champion Dennis Erb, Jr. finished third after starting seventh.  Jeep Van Wormer of Pinconning, Mich., chased Erb to the front from his eighth starting spot to finish fourth.  Defending Summer Nationals champion Jason Feger of Bloomington, Ill., rounded out the top five.

Current 'Hell Tour' point leader Shannon Babb of Moweaqua, Ill., finished 12th in the main event to retain his point lead over Scott James of Lawrenceburg, Ind. James finished ninth.

The DIRTcar Summer Nationals will take Tuesday off and return to action Wednesday, July 6 at Peoria (Ill.) Speedway.
