Southern Nationals: Madden Makes It Two

Series report

CLEVELAND, Tenn. - July 24. Schaeffer Oil Southern Nationals Series point leader Chris Madden became the first repeat winner of the 2011 campaign as he reached victory lane tonight at Cleveland Speedway. After swapping the lead several times in the first 15 circuits with polesitter Tommy Kerr, Madden throttled up and drove away from the competition to earn the $3,500 prize.

Polesitter Kerr and fourth starting Madden waged an excellent battle for the top spot over the first 15 circuits. Once Madden disposed of Kerr for good on lap 15, he held off a charge from Kerr's teammate Billy Ogle, Jr. before stretching his lead late in the race. Only two cautions slowed the action at Cleveland, as Donald Bradsher brought out the yellow on lap 13 and Chip Brindle spun on lap 22.

The Gray Court, South Carolina native, Madden stretched his point lead by beating Ogle and Ronny Lee Hollingsworth to the finish line.

Shane Clanton made the long trip to Cleveland from Gillette, Wyoming where he won the $10,000 'Cowboy 50' on Tuesday at the Gillette Thunder Speedway. Clanton made a late charge to get up to the fourth position.

The next event for the Schaeffer Oil Southern Nationals Series will be Friday night, July 22 at the high-banks of the Volunteer Speedway in Bulls Gap, Tennessee.
