Southern Nationals: Madden Conquers Rome Outing

Series report

ROME, Ga. - July 18. The Southern Nationals Series made its debut tonight in front of a healthy crowd at the legendary Rome Speedway, and Chris Madden walked away the winner of the $5,300 to win program.

Austin Dillon led the first three laps before Mississippi driver Bub McCool took over for one circuit. Both Dillon and McCool were out of the race early, and after starting third on the grid in the 53-lap feature event, Madden grabbed the top spot on lap five and never looked back. He drove his #44 Team Zero racecar to victory lane after defeating Jonathan Davenport, who rallied from the rear of the field following an early race incident. Shane Clanton, Tommy Kerr, and B-Main winner Clint Smith followed in the top five.

John Henderson took a series provisional start and raced from 23rd place to ninth as the race's hardest charger.
