Southern Nationals Series:
Dillon Flag to Flag at Wythe Opener
RURAL RETREAT, Va. - July 11. The 2011 version of the Schaeffer Oil Southern Nationals Series started with a
bang tonight at the Wythe Raceway, and Austin Dillon recorded his first series victory. Following a lengthy
two-hour rain delay, Austin held off a hard-charging Chris Madden to pick up the $3,500 payday. Crossing the
checkers behind Dillon and Madden were Dennis Franklin, Ty Dillon, and Tim Dohm.
Franklin grabbed the lead on the start of the race, but a turn-four pile-up on the first lap caused a total
restart. The race was then red-flagged on lap six due to rain and was delayed for over two hours.
When the feature finally restarted, Jonathan Davenport, Chip Brindle, and Donald Bradsher were relegated to the
tail end of the lead lap cars after changing tires during the red flag period. Chris Madden, who went to a back-up
car following time trials, rallied from last to second to finish a half straight-away behind NASCAR Camping World
Truck Series star Dillon.
Consolation races were scrapped earlier in the night when impending weather caused the entire field to be set
via time trials. The next race for the Schaeffer Oil Southern Nationals Series will be on Tuesday, July 12 at the
Carolina Speedway in Gastonia, North Carolina.
