WINGATE, N.C. - July 10. Casey Roberts captured the checkered flag in the Clash South’s first ever appearance at Lavonia Speedway Saturday. One of the notorious "Georgia Bandits", Roberts was able to rein supreme for the $3,500 win in his home state against 22 fellow southeastern Late Model drivers.

Roberts took the lead on the high side of the track over Brent Dixon, but the caution flew twice before one lap could be completed whenTim Allen broke something in his motor and came to rest, and again when Gary Collins, Jay

Brent Dixon held off Dennis Frankllin for second at Lavonia. (Thomas Hendrickson)
Sessoms, and Richie Corley tangled. Collins was unable to continue, and Sessoms continued with major right side damage.

On the second lap, Clash South points leader Ricky Weeks broke another driveshaft coming down the frontstretch and made his way behind the wall, as his night was over.

Finally, the green stayed out and on lap eight, Roberts got into heavy traffic, which gave Dixon and Dennis Franklin the opportunity to catch the leader. Dixon showed his nose under Roberts for the next 10 laps going into each corner, but was unable to successfully make the pass as he was feeling heavy pressure from behind from Franklin.

The third and final caution flew on lap 18 when Sean Mcgahee and Randy Harmon wrecked. Under caution, Mcgahee pulled behind the wall, and was joined by Mike Gault and Michael Akeson.

On the fiinal restart, Roberts was yet again able to motor away from the field as the fans attention turned to Dixon and Franklin, battling tooth and nail for the second position. Behind them, Colby Cannon also had his hands full with Jeremy Ledford and Randy Harmon. Both battles on the track would ensue for the entire race until the checkers were thrown, with Cannon beating out Ledford, then Harmon. Up front, Casey Roberts was followed by Dixon, Franklin, and Jamie Oliver.

Jim Rasey's fifth place finish added to his already successful weekend as he won a Memorial Race in Ohio on Wednesday in his Big Block Modified car.
