ULMS: Blair Masters McKean Co. Again For "Stephanie Eckl Memorial" Victory

Track report

E. SMETHPORT, Pa. - Aug. 4. Rob Blair has found the fast setup for McKean County Raceway as he has picked up the past two Northern Tier Inc ULMS Late Model wins at MCR in the past three weeks. Blair’s win Thursday night was his second "Stephanie Eckl Memorial" win and he went home with $3500 in his pocket.

Max Blair kept the Blair winning ways going also by capturing the 20 lap FASTRK Late Model event as well Thursday night giving the father – son duo a clean sweep of the nights action.

From the pole position, Blair paced the 21 car field to John Powell’s green flag and bolted into the lead over Dennis Lunger, Dutch Davies, while Jason Dupont went from sixth to fourth on the opening lap. After a lap five caution for a spin by central Pennsylvania visitor, Nick Loffredo, Blair again got the quick jump on Lunger on the start. As lap ten clicked off the board, Blair was still leading with Dutch Davies up to second over Lunger and Dupont. Defending ULMS champion Boom Briggs was up to sixth from his 11th starting spot. He then climbed into the top five on lap 13 using the outside groove to go around Chad Valone.

Lap 15 saw the second caution of the night for a spun Mike Knight after apparent contact, and the cars of Matt Lux, Chad Valone, Dave Hess and Greg Oakes were all involved.

Blair again got the jump on the start over Dutch Davies as Lunger made the move for second, only to see Davies get it back one lap later. With another cuation, Blair maintained control over Davies with Boom Briggs, up to third over Dupont and Lunger. The restart lasted another five laps as Briggs would dispose of Davies on lap 24, before the yellow lights came back out for heavy contact between Jeff Hoffma and Derek Frank, ending their night.

On lap 29, Lunger’s great run ended as a flat left rear tire sent him spinning around, resulting in a one lap shootout for the win. On the green/white restart, the cars got stacked up, resulting in Chris Hackett and Doug Eck sitting in the infield. The second restart went off without a hitch and Blair just pulled away from Briggs, ending any drama of a close finish. Davies was third over Dupont, and Knight rounded out the top five after coming from the tail from the lap 15 caution.

NALMS Suspends Remaining Season

In a statement released to the racing media Monday, Northern All All Stars Late Model Series (NALMS) owners Shawn Hall and Bob Mooney relased the following statement:

To all NALMS drivers and fans,

Northern Allstars Late Model Series regrets to inform all of our drivers and fans that as of today (May 14, 2012) we will suspend all series races for the remaining 2012 season. The primary reason for the decision to discontinue the series was mainly economics. Tracks, teams and fans are having a hard time these days with the cost of living in general. With the cost of fuel, parts, tires, tickets and lodging, many people just cannot afford to travel to our shows, so we feel it's best to stop for now and try to regroup for the 2013 season.

Our series needs to be able to have at least 18 to 20 shows to cover our cost of putting on these shows and our drivers point funds. With many tracks cutting back on their special events and other tracks just choosing not to have specials at all, it's has really cut our options for race tracks down to a very few unless you are willing to travel several hours away from the Central Illinois area, and that is not cost effective for the racing teams or fans.

In closing we would like to thank all of the drivers and fans whom have supported the series over the years and we hope to be able to come back with a bigger and better season for everyone in 2013.
