ADRA: Carrier Battles to
"Coal Miner's Classic" Win at Lucky 7 Speedway
APPLE GROVE, W.V. - Aug. 8. The lead was never secured by any driver until the last lap of the 50-lap feature,
but Eddie Carrier, Jr. was that driver, who battled his way to a $5,000 win as the ADRA Dirt Late Model
Championship Series and the United Super Dirt Car Series joined forces at Lucky 7 Speedway on Saturday for the
second annual "Coal Miner’s Classic".
Josh McGuire, of Grayson, Ky., who set fast time in a borrowed #81M car from the Fout’s Racing Team
after blowing an engine in his own #41 last week, led the first few laps before a flat tire sent him hurrying to
the pits and back to the tail of the field before the green flew. As McGuire made an impressive charge back
toward the front of the field, third starting Carrier battled Mark Sturgill for the lead. Sturgill was doing a
yeoman’s job of holding off the advances of Carrier as the two raced door to door for nearly 30 laps before
Sturgill spun and was sent to the rear of the field.
While Sturgill would hold on to salvage a respectable ninth place finish on race worn tires, McGuire made his
way back to the front and raced Carrier door to door until lap 50, when Carrier edged ahead and picked up the
feature win and $5000.
“The longer we went green the better my tires got,” explained Carrier in victory lane. “After the cautions it
took a lap to get going again, but once we did I could go back to the front. This is a nice race track here and I
thank Lucky 7 Speedway for putting this race on for all our coal miners. I thank the good Lord for letting me have
a job I love.”
The race was not without incident, as several cautions caused some delays and equipment failures from the
electronic scoring company contracted to score the race, which would eventually lead to scoring the race
manually by Jamie Trimble.
