MALDEN, Mo. – Aug. 27. Rodney Melvin stormed past Wendell Wallace late in the 35-lap feature to claim his first
career COMP Cams Super Dirt Series (CCSDS) win on Saturday at Malden Speedway.
With 27 Late Model teams entering the $2,000-to-win event for the COMP Cams Super Dirt Series, Wallace looked to be
an odds-on-favorite to claim his second tour win in as many nights by claiming the JFR Graphics Pole Position.
Wallace was joined on the front row by Dewaine Hottinger, and it would the #88 entry of Wallace taking control of
the lead at the drop of the green flag.
As Wallace enjoyed a comfortable advantage throughout the first half of the event, there was a storm brewing behind
him as sixth starting Melvin was on the move, working his way to the front of the pack. As the race neared its late
stages, Melvin moved into the second spot and set his sights on the leader. On lap 29, he drove past Wallace to
claim the top spot and led the remaining six circuits.
Current points leader, Brandon Smith received the Larry Shaw Race Cars Hard Charger Award for advancing from his
12th starting spot to a sixth place finish.
The Quarter Master Hard Luck Award went to Keith Lawson.
