Volunteer Racing Series: Marlar’s Long Haul from Batesville Pays Off With VRS Win at Lake Cumberland

By Chris Tilley, VRS

BURNSIDE, Ky. — Aug. 22. Mike Marlar put an end to what was an exciting and very fast event at Lake Cumberland Speedway.

The 32 year old driver from Winfield, Tenn. took the lead on lap six and never looked back, winning over his younger Brother Skylar to capture his first-ever Volunteer Racing Series event win.

Marlar became the sixth different winner in just nine events on the series and came to victory lane after a long haul back from Batesville, Ark. and the "Topless 100" on Friday.  Marlar took the lead on lap six after race leader Michael Chilton went up on the turn two outside wall and flipped over on his top. Chilton was unhurt, but was unable to finish the event, leaving Marlar to hold off Skylar Marlar, Tommy Kerr, Hard-Charging Victor Lee and first-timer to LCS, Billy Ogle, Jr., for the fifth spot at the end.

And just as the Border Wars Part II event was perceived to be, a race between Kentucky and Tennessee, the Tennessee drivers came out on top this time as four of the five drivers in the top-five in the main event were from the Volunteer State.

Marlar's win came while driving the Davis Wells Motorsports, Custom Race Engines powered Rocket Chassis that is sponsored by Valley View Enterprises, VP Racing Fuels and Wayne Bowen Racing Supply.
