Southern All Stars: Madden
From 10th For Cleveland Win
CLEVELAND, Tenn. - Aug. 20. After a less than satisfying qualifying effort left starting back on row five for
the start of Saturday's return of the Southern All Stars to Cleveland Speedway, Chris Madden rallied to take the
lead near the halfway point and raced to the $5,000 victory in the annual "Jean Johnson Memorial".
Veteran Skip Arp of Georgetown, Tenn. picked up the pole position and led from the start as Madden launched his
#44 and used the caution-free event to maintain his momentum on the low side. Madden caught Arp past the
mid-point and showed the way for the remainder. Billy Ogle, Jr. got by Arp in the later laps to take second at the
finish, trailed by Arp, William Thomas, Johnny Chastain, Chris Ferguson, Ronny Lee Hollingsworth, David Payne, Todd
Morrow, Mike Marlar and Brian Reese.
Arp set fast time with a lap of 13.927 seconds. With the top ten qualifiers making up the first five rows, two
consolation races set the rest of the field, with Tommy Kerr and Mike Hill taking the wins.
