SRRS: Johnson Gets the Shaft; Arp Claims Second Win at Boyd's

RINGGOLD, Ga. - Aug. 21. Ronnie Johnson appeared to be headed to his fifth win of the season on the Southern Regional Racing Series (SRRS) Saturday at Boyd's Speedway, but a broken drive shaft in the final laps sidelined the Chattanooga veteran and opened the door for Skip Arp to claim his second of the season on the tour. It was also Arp's second at this north Georgia Speedway, where his first checkered flag cam on May 1st.

With 31 cars registered in, the fastest qualifier overall

Arp took the top spot on the green flag, but Johnson passed him for the lead on lap 10, with Putnam following in third. Lap 14 saw Arp pass Johnson to take the lead once again, but shortly before lap 25, Johnson was back up front again, just as Putnam saw his race end with a blown engine.

Johnson maintained the top spot until, on lap 35, he suddenly dropped a drive shaft. Arp inherited the lead back and stayed there to take the win over Kinzer and William Thomas. Fourth place was a rare three-way tie between David Payne, Randy Weaver, and Ogle.
