Roberts Claims Lavonia SAS
By Kelley Carlson
LAVONIA, Ga. -- April 3. Casey Roberts ran down Ethan Hunter with 13 laps
remaining in Saturday's 50-lap feature and claimed his first Southern All Stars victory of the season at Lavonia
Speedway as the series held its fourth event of the season.
Roberts was the fast qualifier on the night to earn the pole position, but spent most of
the race tracking Hunter before putting his #101 car low on the track and into position to win his fifth
career SAS event when Hunter's wearing tires causd his #15 to wash up the track a
bit. Roberts had patiently followed Hunter over the first two
thirds of the 50-lap event before swooping in and making his winning move. "I knew if we
could just ride around and stay with
Ethan we should be in good shape later in the race. I knew we were a little harder on tires than he was and that
was really the difference in the end."
Roberts said from Victory Lane.
Hunter had to settle for second, leading Jeff Cooke and West Virginia veteran Steve Shaver
while B-Main winner Clint Smith advanced to fifth, driving the high side of the rough race track.
The racing surface was reworked on two
different occasions in an attempt to combat
the rough conditions that developed over the course of the evening. "I know these guys did all they could with the racetrack. Sometimes that stuff just
happens, its just a part of racing." Roberts
Clint Smith storms outside of #00 Freddy Smith on his way to a fifth place finish at
Lavonia. A last chance race win had Smith's #44 starting 11th on the grid. (Thomas
