Byars Claims First Win at Whynot
MERIDIAN, Miss. - April 9. With 25 teams on hand for the second round of the Mississippi State Championship
Challenge Series (MSCCS) event at Whynot Motorsports Park, Klint Byars, a young gun from Calhoun City, Miss.,
battled back and forth with veteran David Breazeale to claim his first win on the regional tour. The 50-lap event
continued without a caution flag.
Byers set fast time for the night with a 12.895-second lap, and started outside of dash winner Breazeale. Byars
led coming out of the chute with Breazeale, Brian Rickman, Jim McDuffie and Jeremy Broadus in pursuit. Breazeale
took the lead on lap six. With Byars following, McDuffie fell off the pace and exited the track, returning
several laps down as Jeremy Broadus, Steve Bryan, and Scott Creel continued in the top five.
Byars returned to the lead on lap 11, with Breazeale coming out on top for lap 12. Breazeale kept the lead
through lapped traffic until lap 33, when Byars again moved up front for two laps before Breazeale returned to the
top spot. Finally on lap 38, Byars bypassed Breazeale for the last time and held on until the checkered flag flew
to end the 50-lap event. He was followed by Breazeale, Bryan, Broadus and Rodney Wing.
