Ultimate Racing Series: Davenport Takes Second Straight Win With Shaver's Misfortune

Jason Curd

MADISON, N.C. - April 2. Jonathan Davenport found himself in the right place at the right time Saturday at Mike Fulp's high speed 311 Speedway. The Georgia driver raced to his second Ultimate Racing Series win after leader Steve Shaver suffered a flat tire on the last lap.

West Virginia's Shaver won the Shell Racing Solutions Fast Time Award and he and Davenport swapped the lead several times, passing each other using both the high and low grooves of the speedway. Late in the race, Davenport made one last charge, but could not complete the pass for the lead.

Shaver looked to be on his way to another 2011 victory as the white flag flew for the final lap - but a flat tire while exiting turn two would end those chances. Davenport completed the pass and went on for second victory in a row. Austin Dillon finished second and defending Series Champion Casey Roberts third. Shaver salvaged a fourthth place finish.
